MYANMAR MISSION TRIP 2019

Testimony by sister Nyssha Tan
It was a privilege to serve God in the Myanmar mission trip this year from 30 March to 4 April. The Vacation Bible School was held from 1 April to 3 April. We thank God for journey mercies and protection over us in our going out and coming in. The theme for this year’s VBS was The Life of Abraham which was taught over 5 lessons. Abraham is described as the friend of God and the father of the faithful. He was a good example of how a stranger and pilgrim should be on this earth despite his moments of folly. We learnt much from his growing faith in God and his heavenly-mindedness.

Thank God for bringing in close to 130 students in the VBS this year, some of which were from the New Life Student Centre, G.E.M (student centre that brother Deih Piang is under the care of) and neighbouring churches from Northern Myanmar. I taught in the lower primary class and the children were attentive and obedient when God’s Word was being taught. They were diligent in jotting down notes, the memorising of Bible verses and had keen interest in learning new hymns. It was a joy serving in the midst of the Myanmar brethren and a good reminder to reflect on how much time we devote to commune with our Lord.

This year, there was a mix of new students and those who have been joining us for the past few years. Thank God for their desire to learn God’s Word even though some had to travel a day’s journey from other states to reach Yangon. Thank God also for the spiritual growth of students who joined us previously. May God’s Word transform their lives as they seek Him wholeheartedly.

This year, a church building has finally been built in Dahlah village. We praise the Lord for His provision and goodness in establishing a church witness in the village. We attended the inauguration service where the gospel was being preached to the adults and children. There were close to 100 adults and 150 children who came. Rev Andrew Kam and his wife minister God’s Word regularly to the small group of church members and their children. Previously, the church members had their worship services in a member’s attap house which was rather small to fit everyone comfort-ably. With the 2 storey church building, we pray that the Lord will bring in more people to hear the gospel and the members can grow in the knowledge of God and His Word though the Bible study lessons. We pray that the Lord will continue to sustain the church for His glory.

We thank the Lord for the hospitality of the brethren in Myanmar. They served the Lord readily and with gladness as they took care of our physical needs. We were reminded of Abraham inviting the pre-incarnate Christ and two angels into his home and served with humility and generosity. We cherished the sweet fellowship we had with them and hope that we will meet again next year if the Lord wills. Through their testimonies, our hearts are encouraged as we saw the Lord’s faithfulness in prospering the ministries God has established. Truly, the harvest is plenteous and the labourers are few but they remain steadfast in the preaching of the gospel and building up of the saints. May the joy of the Lord always be their strength as they abound in the work of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”

Testimony by sister Ysabel Tan
It is by God’s grace and enabling that I was able to attend the mission trip to Myanmar this year. This is my fourth time and it is a good time to reflect on God’s goodness in seeing me through the past year, and for sustaining the ministry of the brethren in Myanmar.

With a growing familiarity of the mission schedule, I was unsure if I was able to withstand the trip this year as it is rather challenging, physically. Later, we were updated that 2 aunties would be joining us. Being younger and having no ailments, surely God will sustain me if I lean upon Him for strength! God was gracious and granted us relatively cooler weather this year, and we were sustained with good health and voices throughout.

During the preparation for the trip, I received a copy of Dr Tow Siang Hwa’s autobiography. Reading just a few pages of it stirred my heart greatly and caused me to realize how small and lacking was my service to God. There could be so much more to do in evangelism and ministering to the saints. This encouraged and propelled me throughout my time in Myanmar.

God has provided help abundantly through my mother, who partook of the preparation for this trip. Our team was also helpful and supportive one to another. To do the work of the Lord is an honour and privilege, to serve with brethren is a great joy.

The mission season lasts for a few days, and even back at home, it is still time to reach out to the many who have not come to know the Lord. May we be used for God’s glory!

“Don’t let me rust, or my life be a failure, my God to Thee. Use me and all I have, dear Lord, And hold me so close to Thee”

Testimony by sister Lee Li Li
God has touched my heart and led me to join this year’s Mission team to Yangon. Initially I was troubled and don’t know what can I do for God for the Mission trip.

When the VBS programme duty was out, Karen Yeo and I were assigned to do one art and craft lesson which was on the last day of the VBS. With the help from two sisters, Karen Yeo and I decided on the craft item. From there on, we started to buy and prepare the required materials. I was excited yet apprehensive, thinking whether I can do a good job for God.

Now as I look back, God provided all the help that we needed along the way. I am glad that we are able to join the team all the way and even to go to the Churches in the villages every day for 3 days when the VBS ended.

All thanks and praise to God for safety and good health all the way too for the whole team.

Testimony by sister Miriam Wong
It has been more than 15 years after my father had a stroke that I did not go to any mission trip. The poverty of the people and the need for more people to reach out to them is something that I have been very accustomed with.

I realised that I did not have the strength and passion that I used to have. The lesson that I would like to share with everybody is, serve the Lord while we still can. Someday, we might not be able to serve, even when we want to due to our health and physical infirmities.

Thank God for all the co-operation and the preparation of the mission team members and Dn Bo Hao for writing the outline of the 5 messages.
